As partners in progress, the Ogun State Ministry of Transportation says it will ensure that its Transportation Master plan is implemented to enhance the potentials in the tourism sector, to enable the government generate more revenue.
Commissioner in the Ministry, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, made this known while giving his goodwill message at the 2022 World Tourism Day, with the theme; ‘’Rethinking Tourism” at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.
Engr. Dairo stated that the Master plan has a multimodal approach to connect all the economic clusters, historic sites, and the numerous tourist centers in the three Senatorial Districts in the State, noting that an effective transportation network would promote the State’s cultural activities at improving the socio-economic development.
The Commissioner pointed out that ‘’the State government has developed several transport infrastructures to ensure that the full potential of tourism is harnessed, such as the reconstruction of Epe-Mojoda road, facilitation of Railway Redline project between Ogun and Lagos States, among others.
Earlier in her address, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Adijat Adeleye-Oladapo, revealed that the State’s rich cultural heritage had made it a tourism hub and destination of choice for foreign tourists.
Adeleye-Oladapo said the Ministry was working on more promotional strategies that would not only give the State global prominence but also increase patronage and would retain its pride of place among the comity of States.
Contributing, the National President of the Association of Tourist Boat Operators and Water Transpiration of Nigeria, Dr. Ganiu Balogun, in a lecture titled, "Water Transportation Tourism: A Shot in the Arm for Economic Development", encouraged investors to invest in water transportation, saying that the waterways serve as a good tourist attraction site.
On his part, a lecturer in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism at the Federal University of Technology (FUNAAB), Dr. Ibrahim Adeshina, who spoke on "Technology and Security: Key Factors to Repositioning the Tourism Industry" emphasised the significance of technology in ensuring the safety of visitors in the State.
He commended the strides of Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration in establishing the Ogun Tech Hub, advising that government should come up with a framework that would reposition tourism in the State with the use of artificial intelligence to secure the tourism sector.
