Determined to ensure effective and efficient teaching and learning of trade subjects across all Government Science Technical and Vocational Colleges in the State, the Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board (OGSTVEB) has organised a Day capacity building for technical teachers, instructors, and Trade Subject Delivery Officers, (TSDOs), on teaching methodology.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa, while declaring the training open at the Lisabi Grammar School Abeokuta, called on the participants to keep themselves abreast of modern teaching procedures in the area of technical and vocational education (TVET), to pave way for a seamless transference of knowledge to students.
“You will recall that not too long ago, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), sponsored Principals and Technical Instructors from all the eight Government Science and Technical colleges to Germany on a training tour, we thought it wise and needful to put together a step-down programme for them to share their experience with others and demonstrate practical skills on how the tour has added to their reservoirs of knowledge which must reflect on their students as well”, Odemuyiwwa said.
The Governor’s Aide promised to sustain local and international training for Technical Instructors, and urged participants not to see themselves as inferior to other teachers but be proud of their profession because TVET is relevant globally, appreciating the GIZ for its numerous intervention in the State.
Also speaking, Senior Technical Advisor, GIZ/SKYE, Ogun State, Mr. Ibraheem Aliyu appreciated the government for enabling an environment for robust partnership, promising to maintain the collaboration to further assist the government in achieving its dream of empowering its populace with skills.
Earlier, the Acting Executive Secretary, OGSTVEB, Mr. Olubori Akinleye opined that the role of training and re-training of technical teachers and instructors cannot be overemphasised, and applauded the Governor and GIZ/SKYE for the numerous intervention.
Speaking on behalf of other participants, Mrs. Adeboye Omolara, TSDO, Abeokuta North Local Government, and Mr. Samuel Omotola, Principal, GSTC Ijebu-Ode respectively, posited that the training would afford them the opportunity of stepping down knowledge garnered from the foreign tour, as well as opened them to new development, appreciating government and GIZ for the training.
