Ogun Library Board sits after 26 years !



The Ogun State Library Board recently  innaugurated by Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR, after decades of its pioneer existence in 1996, had commenced sittings,  thus, activated its operational policies, programs and activities that would serve as catalyst for improving public and students reading culture to further the concerted efforts of the present administration at ensuring qualitative and affordable education in the state.


Welcoming the board members to the meeting, its Chairman, Professor Segun Awonusi said "We  commended the brilliant idea of the governor for identifying with the overall value and potentials of improved library system for total educational development of the state by resuscitating the Board among many other landmark steps".


Awonusi,  pledging alongside the board members,  assured that the body would leave no stone unturned in turning around the state of libraries and thier provisions across the state, schools and public centers in a way to compete with best standard obtained in developed countries. He said further,  "We have resolved to work round the clock in harnessing all potentials including human, capital and materials resources available across the state to achieve the desired results". 


The board at the innaugural sitting reviewed the situation reports of all the state libraries to ascertain the challenges and to map out best solutions. 


The sitting identified urgent need for on the spot check to some of the Public library locations in the state to see for itself what to be done to suit the public needs and effective usages. 


The board's innaugural sitting also hosted the courtesy visit of the Ogun State chapter of the Nigerian library Association Executives, led by Dr Oyewole Godwin Olusegun. 


The association assured its readiness for robust cooperation with the board to ensure that all goals are achieved. Dr Oyewole admonished Governor Abiodun for putting round pegs in round holes by the choice of board membership, noting that the state was already on good path at restoring the leading glory of the state as educational gateway of the country.


The group pleaded with the Board to ensure that proffesionals are appointed to manage all State libraries for effective and efficient management.


In the same vein,  a group of young librarians under the ageies of "Tintol Team"  led by Miss  Ifedamola Olaniyi treated the board's sitting with a presentation on the essence of Digital library system in the modern day services.


Responding to the two teams, the board Chairman noted that those important issues raised were already part of the working documents members were already equiped with and assured that within time, things will take better shape as the board is considering proactive advocacy among the citizenry of the state on the importance of libraries in education just as it would continue to work with all stakeholders for mutual support. 


Other members of the board at the meeting include: Mr lanre Ogunyinka, Dr Adebambo Oduwole, Dr Mrs Ayodele Womiloju, Dr Mrs Oyinade Tomori, Mrs Bamidele Makinde, Mr Vincent F. Giwa and Mr Taye Solarin Sogbesan.
