Wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun has described the work of physiotherapists as one that could not be ignored in the medical practice, as they restore the health of patients.
Mrs. Abiodun stated this at June 12 Cultural Center, Kuto, Abeokuta, while speaking during an event commemorating the 2022 World Physiotherapy Day, with the theme: “Osteoarthritis” organised by her office in conjunction with the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy, Ogun State Hospitals Management Board branch.
The first lady said the theme was apt, as it affects all ages, noting that celebration of the Day would raise more awareness about the critical role of physical therapists and chronic pain therapies in keeping people healthy and fit.
She added that a campaign on the benefits of physiotherapy would be taking to the nooks and crannies of the State, encouraging people to take good care of their health and visit the practitioners whenever they have pains, injuries and stiffness in the joints.
Contributing, Wife of a former President of Nigeria, Chief Mrs. Bola Obasanjo said people should inculcate the habit of taking healthy diets and avoid junk food to stay healthy.
In his goodwill message, the Head of Service, Dr. Nafiu Aigoro encouraged the physiotherapists to keep up the good job in ensuring a healthy society and support the Prince Dapo Abiodun led-administration in achieving its qualitative and affordable healthcare delivery.
In his remark, the Director of Physiotherapy and Medical Rehabilitation, Ogun State Hospitals Management Board, Alhaji AbdulSuraj Olabamiro said the Day marks the worldwide physiotherapy community's unity and solidarity, adding that the practitioners work in line with the mission of the present government to deliver good healthcare services to residents.
