Ogun State Government has sought the support of leaders in the Ogun State Cooperative Federation (OGSCOFED) and Odua Conglomerates in the Southwest
region of the country, to fashion out ways in helping the government at improving on its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Hon. Abayomi Hunye, made the call in Abeokuta during a meeting with OGSCOFED, Odua conglomerates and other stakeholders of Cooperative societies in the State.
Hunye acknowledged the contributions of the Movement to the economic emancipation of the people and development of the State, saying government was willing to give necessary backing needed towards improving its operations.
The Commissioner revealed that a 5-7 man Committee would be set up among the leaders of the Movement, to come up with ideas that would further engender its activities, saying “the operation of the Movement should be reviewed to tackle the present challenges facing it and for better output”. There is need to look inward to effect positive change that will be of immense benefit to individual’s prosperity and that of the State in general”, Hon. Hunye said.
Responding, the President, OGSCOFED, Alhaji Wasiu Odeleye while appreciating the government for the initiative to reform the Movement, noted that, there were 10 branches of the Movement which cut across the 20 Local Government Areas of the State, including the Salary Earners Cooperative Union, promising that the Committee, when inaugurated would deliver and restore the lost glory of the Movement.
