The Ogun State Chief Judge, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu has said a functional judicial system is indispensable to national development, as its efficiency would ensure contract enforcement and engender market transaction, as well as economic growth.
Justice Dipeolu stated this in Abeokuta at Ogun State Judges' Conference 2022, with the theme: "Court Decisions as a Catalyst for National Development: Focus on the Electoral Process", as part of activities marking the 2022/2023 Legal Year, noting that no society could develop without input of both national and international investors.
The Chief Judge explained that judicial system was often measured not only by trial length but the capacity to promote the speedy dispensation of justice, which was capable of restoring public confidence in the Nigerian temple of justice, calling on judicial officers in the State to always foster national interest in their court decisions.
In his address, Chairman of the event, Justice Philip Onamade (Rtd.) stated that there should be concerted efforts towards protecting and sustaining the nation’s democracy, noting that efficiency of judicial officers would further deepen the electoral process, and expressed confidence that the theme for the Year would impact on the upcoming 2023 General Elections.
