Liverpool will be hoping to showcase plenty more strength in depth once the summer transfer is shut.

The Reds have made an indifferent start to the new season with eight points from their opening five matches leaving them fifth in the Premier League table.

What hasn’t helped Jurgen Klopp’s side is a number of injuries and selection problems throughout the team which has made fielding his strongest side particularly tough in the opening weeks of the season.

However, with players coming back into contention, things look a little bit brighter.

Klopp will also be boosted by the arrival of new signing Arthur Melo who joins the club on a season-long loan deal from Juventus. But how will the Brazilian’s arrival impact the starting XI? Here, talkSPORT.com takes a look.

If Liverpool are to get their season back on track, they’ll no doubt be relying on Alisson between the sticks as their most reliable goalkeeper.

While Joel Matip is closing in on a return to full fitness, Joe Gomez will continue to partner Virgil van Dijk in central defence, despite the Dutch star’s lack of form in recent weeks.

They’ll continue to be joined by Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold who continue to be two of the most effective full-backs in the Premier League.

Fabinho is a regular starter for Liverpool, and providing that he proves his match fitness, he could be joined by fellow Brazilian Arthur in the middle of the park.

With Naby Keita, Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson on the sidelines, it means that Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho could continue to compete for that final spot in the three, with Elliott potentially having the edge.

In attack, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz have already proven themselves as two of Klopp’s most reliable attacking outlets.

Despite missing the last three fixtures, Liverpool fans will be boosted by the return of £85million man Darwin Nunez following his suspension for the red card that he picked up against Crystal Palace.

That said, with Roberto Firmino in outstanding form it remains to be seen whether the ex-Benfica man will walk straight back into the starting XI.
