Ogun State Government has assured of its continued support for cocoa farmers, to further boost the production yield.
Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina who gave the assurance in Abeokuta, while playing host to Ayomide Farmers Association in Ijebu East Local Government Area, said the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration was passionate about sustaining the free seedling distribution, capacity building of farmers, among others.
Dr. Odedina pointed out that his Ministry had resolved to relocate farmers who were given quit notice in the government forest reserves, saying, ”we aim to help farmers have productive and profitable farms that will improve their income and quality of life".
The Commissioner urged cocoa farmers in the State to take advantage of the ongoing distribution of free seedlings, replenish their farms, and improve the cocoa production capacity.
Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Dotun Sorunke noted that the State government would intensify efforts to ensure that cocoa farmers benefit optimally from the sale of their products.
Responding, the spokesperson for the Association, Alhaji Yahaya Olalekan commended the present administration for initiating policies and programmes aimed at enhancing the agricultural sector, as well as meeting the yearnings of farmers.
Also in attendance were Commissioner 1, Ogun State House of Assembly, Barr. Dapo Odukoya, and Director of Produce in the Ministry of Agriculture. Mr. Adedeji Somade.
