Klopp singles out one player after Strasbourg thrashed Liverpool at Anfield

Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp, has singled out Harvey Elliott for praise following his side’s pre-season 3-0 defeat to French club Strasbourg at Anfield on Sunday.

Elliott has featured regularly throughout pre-season and helped Liverpool win the Community Shield on Saturday.

He came off the bench to see out the last 17 minutes of normal time as Liverpool defeated Manchester City 3-1 in the Community Shield.

However, Elliott played 90 minutes as Liverpool lost to Strasbourg at home following goals from Adrien Thomasson (2) and Habib Diallo.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Klopp said he was not surprised following a glowing performance from Elliott, adding that the 19-year-old is a good footballer.

The German said, “We are not surprised about that, we’ve known Harvey now for a long time and he improves every day and that is really important.

“But what you could see today, he could do that after 88 minutes and you saw yesterday a very intense game where we were all struggling, and Harvey didn’t look like he struggled at all today physically.

“That he’s a good footballer, it’s clear. But a player like Harvey needs target players as well and that is what we were lacking today.”
