GOVT’LL ENSURE QUICK DISPENSATION OF JUSTICE ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE- ABIODUN

 


Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun says his government will ensure quick dispensation of justice on domestic violence and sexual assaults related cases in the State, to punish offenders and to deter those that have such tendencies.


Governor Abiodun stated this in Abeokuta at the 2022 Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Ogun  State Chapter,  saying it was high time health practitioners and the general public began to speak against the menace.


  Abiodun, who spoke as guest of honour at the programme, said domestic violence or assaults had taken a different dimension in recent times, calling on stakeholders to intensify efforts on advocacy and formulation of probable policies that could curb it.


Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, the Governor revealed that his administration in collaboration with reputable development partners had established Sexual Assault Centres across the State to serve justice to victims, adding that digitisation process of its healthcare system would further improve the well-being of the people.


On her part, Commissioner for Health,  Dr.Tomi Coker affirmed that the present administration had enjoyed tremendous support from the private sector to boost healthcare services in the State, noting that it had invested in various health infrastructures, as well as enhanced human resources at all levels including, primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare.


Coker expressed optimism that the Meeting would be an avenue to review what had been done so far in the sector, plan for the future and see where the government as a policy maker could collaborate with clinicians to propel better and quality healthcare service.


In his speech, the outgoing NMA Chairman, Dr. Oladayo Ogunlaja commended the government for the support and motivation it had given the medical doctors in the State, appreciating his colleagues for the backing he had received in taking the Association to a greater height in the last two years.
