Wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun has called on the people not to neglect drug addicts in the society, rather, assist them to quit the habit.
Mrs. Abiodun made the call after being decorated as the Executive Ambassador of War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command, during a courtesy visit to her office in Abeokuta, saying the victims of drug abuse would still be useful to their communities when people embrace them.
She attributed the prevalence of drug abuse to economic circumstances that should be properly managed by individuals, advocating resilience and circumspect in people's responses to unpalatable situations, as drugs should not be seen as a social instrument by the youths neither be a solace for socio-economic problems, particularly in children from broken homes.
The first lady emphasised the need for an aggressive campaign against the menace by all and sundry, pledging her support for NDLEA and other line agencies, to check the occurrence.
Earlier in her presentation, the new Commander, NDLEA, Ibinabo Archie-Abia, said it was imperative to curb the prevalence of drug use in the country, adding that collaborative efforts would serve as remedy to the unpleasant situation.
Speaking on the honour bestowed on the Wife of the Governor, Archie-Abia stated that it was in recognition of her commitment in ridding the society of drug-related vices, to build a healthier environment, announcing that Mrs. Abiodun, by virtue of her position had been made the Chairperson of the State Drug Control Committee (SDCC).
