COMMISSION BOSS IDENTIFIES WAYS FOR ACHIEVING RESOURCEFUL PUBLIC SERVICE

The Chairman, Ogun State Civil Service Commission, Engr. Tokunbo Odebunmi has underscored the need to reposition the Public Service with strategies and reforms that will correct the negative factors affecting its operation, towards having effective and efficient service delivery.

Odebunmi stated this in Abeokuta, while delivering a lecture, titled: "Ogun State Public Service: the Challenges and Prospects of Effective and Efficient Service Delivery" at a workshop for Permanent Secretaries and some  Directors in the State Civil Service.

The Chairman pointed out that Public Service across the world was based on core values, which specified universal expectations and preferred mode of operations, adding that the quality of services rendered  would determine the strength of an economy.

He said, ‘’the Public Service system will be more functional when there is no corruption and political interference, personal problems of Public officers do not affect their performances. I want to recommend that regular training, seminars, and workshops be organised for all cadres, with the provision of tools and equipment, as well as creating a conducive working environment for workers to discharge their duties.

"Without transparent and effective Public Service, government business and service delivery to the public will be hindered. I believe that transparency and accountability should be the hallmark of our democratic transformation".

The Commission boss urged Public Servants to maintain neutrality and professionalism in all facets of delivery, as well as abstain from acts inimical to the image of the Service such as foul language, refusal to accept posting, delay in treating official documents and many more.

Responding on behalf of participants,  the Permanent Secretaries, Public Service Transformation Office and Women Affairs and Social Development, Mr. Jola Oyeneye and Mrs. Melutia Ogunremi said the lecture was an eye- opener,  saying they would impact the knowledge gained in their subordinates for the betterment of the Service.
