Special Adviser to Ogun State Governor on Security, AIG, Pastor Olusola Subair (Rtd.) has said that the nation can curb insecurity when its people work in unity and exhibit the spirit of cooperation.
Subair dropped this hint in Abeokuta at a day workshop tagged "Challenges on Insecurity, Preparedness and Way Forward" organised by the Ogun State Emergency Management Agency (OGSEMA) in collaboration with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
He stated that the people should be more conscious of their environment at all times and be ready to contribute their quota to the safety of lives and property, saying the country would be better secured with good governance.
The Special Adviser who attributed the major cause of insecurity in the country to unemployment, with about 56 percent of youths, called on the government at all levels to take quick action to nip it in the bud and appealed to Nigerians to register and vote wisely in the 2023 General Elections.
"Our strength in security is cooperation. Whatever we contribute to security will go a long way to help us, our strength lies in teamwork", he said.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-
governmental Affairs, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi stated that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration had done a lot on security matters, appreciating NIMASA and security agencies at the workshop for their support.
On his part, the Director-General, NIMASA, Dr. Bashir Jamoh, represented by the Director, Internal Audit, Mrs. Olamide Odusanya noted that security in the maritime domain began from land, calling for a better synergy between security operatives and community leaders.
Earlier in his speech, Director OGSEMA, Mr. Olufolarin Ige commended NIMASA for its unrelenting efforts in partnering with the State on security, education, health, and others, assuring that the items would be distributed to the appropriate quarters.
Two of the participants, Messer Bello Taiwo and Victor Oyeleke in their responses acknowledged the significance of the workshop, promising to make good use of the knowledge gained.
Meanwhile, NIMASA has donated equipment and educational materials to selected hospitals and schools in Ogun State.
The materials include, Wheelchairs, Arm digital blood pressure, Dual head stethoscope, Urine analyser, while the educational materials were Whiteboards, Computer system, Notebooks, School bags, Socks, Writing materials, and others.
Receiving the items in Abeokuta, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi lauded the Agency for the gesture, saying it would improve health care delivery and standard of education in the State.
