ABIODUN’S AIDE LAUDS JAMB ON QUALITY ADMISSION PROCEDURES

The Special Adviser to Ogun State Governor on Technical and Vocational Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa has lauded the decision of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), on the scrapping of the Advanced National Business and Technical Education Board (NABTEB) certificate for candidates seeking direct entry into tertiary institutions.

Sequel  to the JAMB's resolve at its 2022 policy meeting at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, affirmed that  Advanced NABTEB would no longer be recognised as a qualification for Direct Entry from 2022, however, all those who have already obtained it before this date will not be affected.

Prof. Odemuyiwa said this in Abeokuta, while presenting a paper on Innovative Technologies for Growing a Sustainable Economy in a Pandemic Era,  at the First International Conference of the Women in Technical and Vocational Education and Employment (WITED), Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Chapter, describing it as an action that conforms to the terms of the National Policy on Education (NPC).

He noted that the step would help address the challenge of dearth of instructors and master craftsmen in the technical institutions and industries respectively, emphasising the need to prepare and keep master craftsmen for supervisory positions in industries and teaching, as they play vital roles in the engineering family.

Prof. Odemuywa advised the Association to explore the numerous advantages of innovative technology, saying it had changed every field of human endeavor leading to technological breakthroughs and enabled countries to improve efficiency, increased productivity, and drive growth for an improved standard of living.

Speaking, the State Chief Judge, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, who emphasised the roles of women in leadership and their contributions to socio-economic development, said institutions could not function effectively without the womenfolk, hence, the need to promote gender parity in leadership, affirming that female leaders were more transformational, participatory, and allow more space in accomplishing organisational goals than their male counterpart.

Earlier, the Rector of MAPOLY, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji, who declared the conference opened, maintained that educated women would help the society solve 70 percent of family challenges, saying advocacy by various groups to educate the girl-child and proper upbringing of male-child to engender balance was already yielding the desired results.
