Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has inaugurated the Chairmen and members of the Governing Councils of the State-owned tertiary institutions and Library Board, with an appeal to the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities to find a lasting solution to the strike embarked upon by university lecturers.
Prince Abiodun made this known today at the June 12 Cultural Center, Abeokuta said that the crisis had left a huge gap in the education and other sectors of the economy, noting that ’’the issue at hand was not about who is wrong or right, but about what is good for the development of youths in the country.
" Let me add my voice to the quick resolution of the lingering crisis in our universities, I am talking about the Federal Government versus the Academic Staff Union of Universities, we have all seen the effect of the unresolved crisis’’.
Abiodun charged the members to ensure that the management of the institutions was in tandem with the development needs of the State, urging them to always offer quality advice while promoting a newer culture of efficiency and effectiveness as entrenched in the global education industry.
Abiodun, while noting that the Teaching Service Commission had begun the compilation of the State's teaching and non-teaching staff for the year 2021 and 2022 promotion exercises, disclosed that his administration had also approved the establishment of the Ogun Intervention Education Fund for the education sector.
Responding on behalf of the Governing Councils, the Pro-Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Prof. Toyin Ashiru, pledged to contribute their quota to the development of tertiary education in the State.
In his remark, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu noted that the constitution of the Councils would complement the present administration’s achievements in the education sector.
