It has been established that Public Speaking can be harnessed to promote genuine and verified achievements of the government or an organisation’s policies and programmes, to keep members of the public abreast of factual happenings in the society.
A former Assistant General Manager, Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), Mr. Busayo Olaifa revealed this in Abeokuta, while delivering a lecture on “Act of Public Speaking” put together by the Ministry of Information and Strategy for Information Officers in the agency.
Olaifa, who is also a renowned broadcaster said Public Speaking should be seen as a channel of communication for a ‘Master of Ceremony’ (MC), noting that such a person should be conversant with activities of the government and organisation to propagate successes and upcoming projects or programmes.
“A Public Speaker who is engaged as a MC should take advantage of Public Speaking as an avenue to promote achievements of government or an organisation, to keep people updated, but such information must be genuine with facts and figures”, he stated.
Olaifa admonished the Information Officers to stick to the rudiments of Public Speaking which include, self-confidence, discipline, religiously and culturally inclined, acquainted with protocol list, avoid blunders and many more.
Earlier in her address, the Director of Information, Planning, Research and Statistics, Alhaja Kemi Ewedairo-Yusuf, said the Ministry is committed to enhancing knowledge-based of its officers for improved productivity in information dissemination.
