Medical Consultants in Nigeria have been charged to serve as mentors to younger ones in the profession, by giving them adequate training that would enable them to meet up with the demand of the job.

The Head of Service, Dr. Nafiu Aigoro gave the charge in Abeokuta, while playing host to the Medical and Dental Consultants' Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), led by its National Executives.

Dr. Aigoro said Medical Practitioners were vital in strengthening the health system of the country, advising them to always put in their best, project a good image through their work and make their marks wherever they find themselves, saying, “you should be dedicated to duties because there is always a payday, as the rewards start on earth before going to heaven”.

" Let us use the opportunity we have to sit at the top of our profession. We should let people see us working by doing our best, let's keep ourselves in line and have the responsibility to reproduce ourselves before we leave the profession. Give your patients quality services and they will spread good words around about you as you continue to project your good image", he said.

Speaking earlier, the National President of the Association, Dr. Victor Makanjuola, said a large number of their colleagues have left for greener pastures, as many States in Nigeria lost more than 50 percent of their medical doctors, Nurses and Consultants to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom and United States of America, posing a major threat to the medical profession.

He showered encomium on Ogun government for keeping the Consultants working in the State, calling for an improved condition of service and welfare of their members.
