OGSG SEEKS TRADITIONAL COUNCIL’S SUPPORT TO TACKLE CULTISM

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has met with the traditional council of the State towards proffering enduring solutions in tackling emerging security concerns, particularly cultist activities.

Abiodun, who met with the Monarchs in Abeokuta, during the 3rd Quarter Statutory meeting of the Ogun State Council of Obas, said there is a need to step up effort in stemming the rise in cultism and other criminal acts, which had led to loss of lives and property.

The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi said cultism is no longer limited to tertiary institutions but had spread to secondary, primary schools, as well as among artisans and truants.

Abiodun stated that necessary security apparatus have been mobilised to put a check on the security challenges and other acts of criminalities, adding that the efforts of the royal fathers would help curb the menace.

The State helmsman noted that his government has continued to engage parents, members of the public, professional and artisan groups to caution their children and members to desist from the act.

“It is important for any administration that desires sustainable development,  to see Obaship Institution as a veritable platform to entrench good governance and this administration has continued to revere the Obaship institution as one of our strategic partners in our commitment for an inclusive, just, fair, equitable, transparent, accountable and obedience to the rule of law”, he stated.

In his remark, the Chairman of the Council, Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi commended the government for initiating the synergy, saying it was hightime it decentralised security machineries for an all-inclusive community policing.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun said the Governor is passionately committed to the welfare and well-being of Royal Fathers and filling of vacant stools, adding that he had granted the immediate approval with cash backing for the upward review of the monthly financial subvention of the four traditional councils by 50 percent.
