The Director-General, Ogun State Bureau of Lands and Survey and Special Adviser to the Governor on Lands, Mr. Aina Salami has said any government that is serious about economic development and transformation should pay attention to its land administration.
Mr. Salami stated this in Abeokuta at a stakeholders’ meeting on Land Policy for Economic Transformation in the State, noting that the present administration came up with the ’ISEYA’ mantra as a development agenda targeted at putting an end to poverty and misery by creating an egalitarian society, where there is equal access to income and the commonwealth of the people.
"We are all aware that in the over three years of the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun, the government beckoning word to all is ‘Building our Future Together’ which among other things is a clarion call to all citizens to cooperate and collaborate with the government in ensuring that practically all developmental programmes and policies are taken deeper permeating by the vulnerable in the society", Salami added.
He emphasised that policy documents are important for uniformity of action and should be free from ambiguity and ensure proper governance and predictability in what is being done for sustainable development.
In her address, Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe said land policy document would improve economy of the State, give investors rest of mind while acquiring land for their businesses, and guarantee employment opportunities for the citizens.
Delivering his key note address, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Aremu Gbadebo, represented by the Aro of Egbaland, High Chief Oluyinka Kufile, said land is essential to economic transformation, calling on the government to be fair with land policy and follow it up for better implementation.
In his own remarks, the Commissioner for Transport, Engr. Gbenga Dairo opined that the issue of policy document should be taken seriously as its implementation would provide a robust transformation system that would boost state economy across all strata.
