As part of its efforts to ensure the successful implementation of the Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme (GEEP 2.0), the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has organized advanced training on digitalization and registration activities for the Community Orientation and Mobilization Officers (COMOs) in Ogun state.
Speaking at the training in Abeokuta, the Minister, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq represented by the Consultant, Chief Darda'u Dan Musa said that the training was aimed toward seamless programme implementation and to bring the COMOs up to date with the new strategies and requirements for phase II registration.
She pointed out that the programme was set up to offered interest-free and collateral free credit to millions of vulnerable low income Nigerians primarily women and youth operating Micro Small and Medium scale Enterprises (MSME) within the informal sector.
"The success of the GEEP programme depends on the quality and quantity of data the COMOs can generate, which can only be achieved through the increased cooperation and support of other stakeholders" She said.
In his address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Dr Rotimiolu Akinlesi lauded the Federal government for the implementation of the programme, saying the programme would further eradicate poverty, generate employment and develop MSMEs in the State and nation at large.
Akinlesi also charged the COMOs to double their efforts in order to ensure better and improved GEEP 2.0 implementation process going forward, noting that the success of the programme can only be achieved through the increased cooperation and support of the other stakeholders of the State NSIP structure.
Two of the trainees, Toriola Tope and Olaleye Paul from Yewa North and Imeko Afon LGA areas respectively, said the exercise would go a long way in achieving the desired goal of the Federal government, pledging to diligently and effectively discharge their duties in the State.
