The Chairman, Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), Mr Babatunde Osibodu has said that the Commission is fully prepared for the conduct of free, fair and credible Bye- Election for Joga/Ibooro ward 5 in Yewa North Local Government, Ogun State.
Osibodu made this known in Ayetoro during a stakeholders' meeting with registered political parties ready to participate in the exercise and other stakeholders.
He said the Bye Election became imperative due to the death of Counsellor representing the ward, Hon. Isiaka Ogundele, while he called for a minute silence in honour of the deceased and prayer said for his family.
The Chairman at the meeting unveiled the bye-election Timetable and Guidelines of which the July 9 2022 earlier announced has now been shifted to July 14, saying this change became necessary because of the Eil-kabir festival.
He urged political parties featuring in the election to commence electioneering processes as from June 6, 2022, explaining that nomination forms and all other relevant documents relating to the conduct of the exercise are to be made available at the Commission's Secretariat.
Osibodu said the result of the election would be announced by the commission, while rerun(if any) would hold on Thursday, July 22, 2022.
In their separate responses, Joga/Iboro Ward Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr. Rafiu Elegbede and representative of the state Chairman, People's Democratic Party, Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele, Hon Orisatolu Kilani commended OGSIEC for the earliest preparation, appealing for free, fair and credible election.
Also, the Awujako of Ijako, Oba Matthew Ewedairo lauded the commission on its preparation and assured of supporting in proving adequate security during the poll.
