Where to next for the Reds talisman, having made public his intention not to sign a new deal at Anfield?
Bayern Munich
The early favourites to secure Mane’s signature during the transfer window, Bayern have been rocked by Robert Lewandowski’s public declaration of intent to depart the club imminently, and they will require a headline replacement.
Mane can both finish off moves and create for his teammates, and his cerebral approach to dismantling opposition defences should make him an appealing prospect for the Bayern hierarchy.
According to Sky Sports, the Bundesliga champions have already opened talks with Mane about a potential move.
Paris Saint-Germain
A month or so ago, PSG could have feasibly been considered a realistic next destination for Mane, with the capital club anticipated to be on the hunt for a superstar forward should Kylian Mbappe depart for Real Madrid.
That move—for so long inevitable—now appears to be dead, with Mbappe pledging his future to the reigning Ligue 1 giants.
While PSG are nonetheless one of the few clubs in the world who could realistically recruit Mane, it’s hard to see the Senegal superstar joining a forward line that already has Lionel Messi, Neymar, and the newly committed Mbappe.
Real Madrid
Having missed out on Mbappe, Real will surely be in the market for another ‘Galactico’ this summer, and Mane—a proven winner in the Premier League and the Champions League—could help supporters forget about the PSG superstar.
With Gareth Bale departing, and Eden Hazard also rumoured to be set for the exit door, Real have some slots opening up in the final third, and the exiting superstars should free up some funds for wages.
Could the European champions really be primed to pluck one of their UCL final opponents’ star performers?
Internazionale
A popular destination for ageing Premier League superstars in recent years, the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Christian Eriksen and…er…Ashley Young all made Inter their next destination after departing the top flight.
Having missed out on the title to fierce rivals AC Milan this season, they’ll be desperate to make a statement signing in the summer, but without enormous reservoirs of funds to spend, Mane could be seen as a realistic target.
With only one year left on his deal at Anfield, he won’t command an enormous fee, and he’d be an awesome asset for Inter as they look to prove to their ambitious fanbase that they mean business.
Juventus
In a similar position to Inter, Juve have fallen from their lofty standards in recent times, and need some statement recruits to return to the pinnacle of the Italian—and then European—game.
Dusan Vlahovic is a valuable addition, but imagine what Mane could achieve with the Old Lady, writing the next chapter of his career as he helped the Italian giants reclaim the Italian crown they believe is rightfully theirs.
He was influential in Liverpool’s revival, could he achieve similar feats with Juve?
Liverpool
While it does appear that Mane is primed for the exit door at Anfield, it must be remembered that nothing is guaranteed, and it may yet be too soon to pack the forward’s bags.
He still has one more year left on his current deal on Merseyside, and so while Liverpool may prefer to cash in, Mane could feasibly opt to remain at the club for a final year, have one more shot at downing ManchesterCity, and then depart on a lucrative free transfer next summer.
Unless a would-be buyer agrees to meet any potential asking price the Reds may set, then Jurgen Klopp may decide that it would be in Liverpool’s interests to keep hold of the Africa Cup of Nations winner for one more year.
