To improve productivity on work performance in Public Service, a human resource expert, Mr. Alex Taiwo has implored civil servants to step up their work, through the use of modern technology in their day-to-day activities.
Taiwo, who is also a former General Manager, Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), disclosed this in Abeokuta, while delivering a lecture titled ‘’Performance Management System: Impact on Productivity’’ during the 2022 Public Service Day celebration.
He said the adoption of recent innovations in the Public Service would enhance service delivery, saying the modern-day civil servants should possess some qualities that would enable them to meet the 21st-century challenges which include, data literacy, prototyping, curiosity, flexibility, leading by example, policy advisory and engagement skills, among others.
Taiwo regarded the Performance Management system as a tool which ensures that employee activities, outputs and results are in line with organisational goals and objectives, to know their performances and level of productivity.
He encouraged management at different levels to provide the needed morale, training and welfare packages, saying ‘’this will not only create feedback mechanism about their employee’s performance but also determines compensational changes and fosters a mutual relationship between the employee and the management’’.
According to him, management has to setup an organisation strategy, which would determine the workforce proficiency and performance, that include, performance planning, execution, assessment and reviews, adding that precept of performance management help to view individual in the broader workplace system, while the concept value and performance of two agencies combined would be greater than that of individual parts.
“Indeed, it is imperative for the public servants to produce a good result or avoid a problem through proactiveness, and must also be committed to their job, to achieve highest quality work”, he said.
Some of the Civil Servants at the event, Mr. Taiwo Tijani and Mrs. Tayo Omolade appreciated the State government for observing the Public Service Day, pledging their loyalty to the current administration in implementing its policies at programmes as expected.
