As part of efforts to maintain cleanliness and enhance personal hygiene across Ogun State, the Ministry of Environment has recruited additional 50 Environmental Marshals across the 20 Local Government Areas, to complement the existing 25 on ground.
This was made known by the Special Adviser on Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya in his keynote address during a day training tagged: "Societal Relations to Environmental Compliance during Political Era" for old and newly recruited Environmental Marshals at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Oresanya said the Marshals were saddled with the responsibilities of monitoring and enforcing health and hygiene policies and legislation of the State with the aim of protecting the lives and property of the people.
The Special Adviser charged them to abide by the State-regulated environmental laws by being dutiful without any form of harassment or extortion of citizens, adding that the Marshals were employed as an instrument of change, and promised that the present administration would look into regulating their monthly allowance.
Speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, represented by the Director, Environmental Health Services, Sanitarian Wemimo Onaeko, congratulated all the Marshals and advised them to ensure 100 percent compliance in the discharge of their duties.
In his presentation, an Environmental Health Officer, Sanitarian Wasiu Abajo, educated the officers on the ethics, codes, and conduct of Environmental Marshals in relation to environmental health practices, advising them to make dignity their watchword.
Contributing, his colleague, Sanitarian Badmus Olubunmi, who spoke on Structure and Communication Command in the Corps, implored the participants to avoid the use of vulgar language when relating with their co-marshal and the general public.
Some of the participants, Olubola Adebiyi and Kafayat Oyenuga, commended the State government and the Ministry for the opportunity to serve the State and for organising the training, pledging to be of good conduct in the delivery of the assigned job.
