BYE-ELECTION: OGSIEC UNVEILS TIMETABLE, GUIDELINES

In its bid to ensure transparency and fairness among political parties, the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has unveiled the timetable and guidelines for the forthcoming Bye-Election into Joga/Ibooro Ward 5 in Yewa North Local Government (LG).

The pronouncement became necessary after the demise of a former Councilor, Mr. Sunday Isiaka and according to the constitution, OGSIEC is expected to conduct a bye-election of another representative that would complete the term.

OGSIEC Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu made this known at a stakeholders' meeting with Ward leaders in Yewa North LG, representatives of different political parties and other relevant stakeholders, at the council secretariat in Ayetoro.

Mr. Osibodu revealed that the date of the bye-election which was first scheduled to hold on Saturday July 9, 2022 has been shifted to Thursday, July 14, 2022 due to the Eld- Kabir festival.

Osibodu appealed to all stakeholders, traditional leaders, party leaders, ward leaders, the electorate, security agencies, as well as the media, to cooperate with OGSIEC in the upcoming Bye-election, so as to have a hitch-free process, warning that anyone found distorting the process would face the wrath of the law.

"Eschew politics of rancor, bitterness, and division. Do not instigate any violence or untoward activities on or before the day of election, as perpetrators will be brought before the law", he stated.

The Chairman reiterated that OGSIEC is an unbiased body and whoever emerged as the winner would be declared by the Commission.

In his remark, the Awujako of IjakoLand, his Royal Highness, Oba (Rev.) Matthew Ewedairo said the people of the council would support the Commission at ensuring a hitch-free Bye-election process, assured of adequate security for all officials.
