ABIODUN ASSURES OF PROMOTING EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS AMONG STUDENTS

 


Ogun State Governor, Prince  Dapo Abiodun has restated his administration's commitment to promoting employability skills among secondary school students across the State, for them to have a secured future.


Governor Abiodun, revealed this today, while declaring open the Students Entrepreneurship Activities (SEA) Hub Exhibition and Completion, a brainchild of German Agency for International Development (GIZ) SEDIN, at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.


Represented by his Special Adviser on Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Prof. Joseph Odumuyiwa, Abiodun emphasised that complete education should be viewed as one that could put food on the table of learners, and make them self-reliant.


He pointed out that his government had put up various measures of promoting Trade subjects in schools, through the Ogun State Board for Technical Education, advising the students to be focused and resilient to have meaning life.


  "For us in Ogun State, we have ensured that our students are exposed to complete education through the promotion of Trade subjects. I greatly appreciate our worthy partner GIZ for organising this event, I urge our students not to relent because with what I have seen here today, the future is indeed very bright", the Governor said.


On his part, Head of  Programme, GIZ SEDIN, Markus Wauschkuhn said the initiative was borne out of the need to improve skills and prepare young people for a secure future and catch them young, adding that the SEA-Hub project is equipping secondary school students with entrepreneurship training in a way that develops their skills to be agile, sustainable and transferable in ever-changing environments and situations.


Wauschkuhn stated that the project had reached over 6,350 students in 95 schools and across 15 Local Government Areas of the State, noting that with funding from the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), almost 30,000 students (60 percent girls) had been empowered through SEA-Hub in Ogun, Edo, Niger, Lagos and Plateau.


In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, said the State is promoting Technical and Vocational Education with 38 Trade subjects that students could choose from,  imploring them not to allow their passion for skills to diminish.


Items exhibited at the event include, Solar, Hydro -petrol Gas, Bio- Gas, among others, as over 10 schools participated.
