Due to the incessant influx of commercial motorcycle riders into the State, the Ogun State government in collaboration with the Transport Union is set to checkmate their activities by issuing Identification Registration Jackets to operators of the commercial motorcyclists.
Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo made this known in Abeokuta during a stakeholders’ meeting in the transportation sector.
Dairo emphasised the need for a proactive approach to regulate the activities of commercial motorcyclist operators popularly called ‘Okada’ riders, noting that arrangement is in top gear to update the database of riders, in order to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
“Registration exercise had commenced months back and all is set to provide numbered jackets with security fixtures, in order to identify riders who are duly registered with the State unions. On our part, we will set up a task force consisting of both the union and other security agencies that will make sure unregistered riders don’t operate within the Ogun State corridor”, Dairo said.
On his part, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, AIG. Olushola Subair Rtd. said the riders' jacket was initiated by the State Security Council to distinguish every rider operating in the State, to curb every form of criminality and other social vices. He encouraged security operatives to put all hands on deck to make the exercise achievable.
Responding, the State Chairman, Amalgamated Commercial Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), Comrade Kayode Sowunmi assured the State government of the union leaders’ cooperation.
