Over 5,000 beneficiaries have benefitted from the empowerment programme organised by Hon. Balogun Olaniyi Afeez in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital on Friday.
The beneficiaries who were drawn from all the wards in Abeokuta South local government of the state, amongst other things were empowered with POS machines and will equally enjoy N1, 000 000 worth free health care for a period of one year.
Balogun while speaking to journalists at the occasion held at Panseke area, said the gesture was not political, stressing that it has nothing to with his ambition neither had he organized such as a means of campaign.
The Abeokuta South House of Representatives aspirant disclosed that the empowerment programme wasn't first of it kind, adding that there are several others which he has organised.
He stressed that the empowerment was birthed out of his passion to alleviate poverty, improve the lives of his constituents as well as create opportunity for them.
The reps hopeful noted that if he eventually emerges, he would be more concerned about effective leadership, equitable representation.
He said ''The empowerment is a way of life, a way of helping others and contributing to their livelihood.
If eventually I emerge "I will champion effective leadership. In the House of Representatives, you legislate, oversee and involve in intervention programmes. I will make sure that infective bills are passed into law for the benefit of our people.
"we did different programmes, during the COVID-19 as well, we came out giving palliatives to our people. It is through empowerment that every politician can change the lives of their constituents.
Some of the elated beneficiaries who lauded Balogun's gesture described it as "unusual".
Balola Omolaolu said "Hon. Balogun has really proven to us that he will be a good representative with what has happened today, there is no doubt, we will enjoy him.
Another beneficiary, Labake Owolaja "Good bless Balogun. If I am to start a POS business, it will cost me nothing less than N200, 000 so what that means is that Hon. Balogun has given each of us N200, 000. Tell me, how many people can do that. later they will say we should vote for them.
She then appealed to residents of ABEOKUTA south to cast their votes for Balogun as a way of reciprocating the good gesture.
