The Ogun State Head of Service, Dr. Nafiu Aigoro, has tasked civil servants to be more committed, productive, conscious, and improve on the services rendered, in order to take the State to a higher height.
Aigoro said this in Abeokuta at a-2-day capacity building workshop for newly-promoted middle-level officers in the civil service, which was jointly organised by the state Bureau of Establishment & Training and Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) consult, with the theme "Entrenching Job Ethics And Productivity Competencies In Public Officers".
“People with good work ethic place a high value on their professional success and exhibit moral principles that make them outstanding employees in any role. I urge you to be hardworking and always maintain a good character", Aigoro noted.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, Mr. Adedayo Shomoye, enjoined the participants to brace up for future challenges in their various workplaces, saying it was imperative to train those that were newly promoted to another cadre, to acquit them with the new trend of service rules and regulations.
Speaking, one of the facilitators and Director, OOU Consult, Prof. Abosede Adebiyi, stated that the essence of bureaucracy was for all workers to be part of decision-making in their various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), noting that “some in the lower cadres, look at those in upper cadres as not taking decisions that suit them, but it is a collective responsibility of all the civil servants”.
Earlier in her speech, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishment & Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajohunbo, submitted that work ethic is one of the most valuable attributes that employers look for in their prospective employees, appreciating the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for the approval of the workshop.
"Work ethic is a skill that can be acquired by changing the way you look, at work and adjusting your attitude in a way that gives priority to the work and its organisation", Fajohunbo said.
