Ogun State Government has said it will continue to reference its traditional institution, which has been a constant vehicle for harnessing potential and cultural heritage for a better society.
The Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun who said this at the Installation and Presentation of Staff of Office to Oba Hassan Adekunle as the new Lenuwa of Ode-Omi, Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, noted that the appointment of the new monarch would avail him the opportunity of playing an advisory role and contribute his quota to the socio-economic development of the town and the State at large.
Abiodun, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Afolabi Afuape stated that the way the people of the community had maintained peace and order since the demise of the former monarch has shown their love for peace.
“I am impressed that the good people of Ode-Omi had towed the path of peace. This is highly commendable and worthy of emulation by other communities in the State. I am convinced that this is a clear demonstration of the love and support which the entire people of Ode-Omi and its environs have for the throne of Lenuwa”, the Governor said.
He enjoined the entire community to continue to support the new Oba and the State by performing their civic obligations, such as payment of taxes and tenements rates as and when due, assuring that his administration would remain sensitive to the desires and aspirations of the people in the State.
Speaking, the Chairman, Ogun Waterside Local Government, Alhaji Mudasiru Adekunle, lauded Governor Abiodun for his leadership style and systematic execution of the people-oriented projects, which had positively impacted the citizens of the State, urging the monarch to work in unity with his people, in order to get the best out of them, as well as improve their wellbeing.
In his remarks, Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Adetona, represented by Dagburewe of Idowa, Oba Yinusa Adekoya enjoined the new Lenuwa to be committed to the development of the area.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Adekunle appreciated the State government for prompt approval of his appointment, appealing to the Governor to resuscitate the Olokola natural deep-sea project to enhance the economic growth and development of the community.
