The Executive Chairman, Ikenne Local Government, Hon. Olusegun Ogunleye has presented the year 2022 budget to the legislative council, with a pledge to improve the living standard of the people, through further delivery of dividends of democracy to the grassroot.
Hon. Ogunleye in his address at the presentation, held on Thursday, 31st March,2022, at the legislative chamber of the local Government, stated that his administration's main priority is to see to an improvement in the standard of living of the people of the local Government.
The Chairman stressed further that, within few months that his administration came into office, and despite the paucity of funds, the administration was still able to carry out some projects like the construction of eight (8) lock-up shops and two toilets at Ojubode Iperu Remo; construction of thirty (30) open stalls at Idotun New Market, Ikenne; construction of open-roof shed at Sewolu street, Iperu: and grading of roads at Ikenne and Iperu.
He disclosed that the budget prepared is in line with the International Public Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS), which is aimed at building on the solid foundation already laid through policies, programmes and projects that would have direct impact on the lives of our people. These shall be implemented in the following sectors: Agriculture, Education, Health, Sports, Youth and Women Empowerment, Roads Rehabilitation, Environmental Sanitation and Staff Welfare.
According to him, the budget size is Two Billion, Five Hundred and Thirty Two Million, Four Hundred and Seventeen Thousand, Seven Hundred and Forty Seven Naira (2,532,417,747) only.
Speaking further, he said the local Government's Internally Generated Revenue machinery has been re-organized and re-energized with a view to generating more money into the Local Government and that the year 2022 Budget will be financed from the following sources; Statutory Allocation from Federation Accounts; Internally Generated Revenue (IGR); and Aids and Grants (State Government).
He appealed to all and sundry to continue to cooperate with his administration to reposition and transform the local government.
Responding, the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon.Dele Otesanya, assured the Executive Chairman and the populace that the Honourable house will immediately swing into action to work on the Appropriation Bill, and ensure its speedy passage into law, to allow its proper implementation.
He also promised to give full cooperation of the house to achieve a better result.
Present at the event were Hon. Bolanle Fakoya, Vice Chairman, Ikenne Local Government; Mr Rotimi Oshinowo, Secretary to Local Government; Engr. (Mrs) Olanike Ogunbona, Head of Local Government Administration; ,the Supervisory Councilors; Special Advisers; Consultants; and Heads of Department.
