Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has disclosed that his administration was able to tackle insecurity headlong, due to the promotion of synergy among the security agencies operating in the State and other security collaborations with Oyo and Lagos States.
Governor Abiodun who dropped this hint in Abeokuta at the 3rd Southwest Conference of the Association of Ex-Local Government Chairmen (ASELGON), said the government had also put in place strategic measures to guarantee adequate security of lives and property with different policies and programmes.
Abiodun, represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Shuaib Salisu called on the Association to come up with initiatives that could complement the existing security apparatus in the State to further nip the insecurity in the bud.
The Governor said the establishment of the Joint Security Initiative Scheme (JSIS), and the formation of OP-MESA and several others have helped the State in no small measure, while its jobs portal had secured both direct and indirect job opportunities for the youth, guaranteed food security and improved the local economy.
In his remarks, a former Governor in the State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel noted that the Local Government as the closest to the people should be proactive on the issue of insecurity, saying “for security to be effective, there should be a joint effort of all and sundry”.
Earlier, the National President of the ASELGON, Hon. Albert Ashipa advised serving Chairmen not to see the association as a rival but partners in progress, calling on members to remain strong, united, and hold it above personal ambition.
