Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun says his administration has ensured that the cost of its housing units is the lowest in the country to enable low-income earners to own houses in the State.
Governor Abiodun made this known during the foundation laying of a new Housing Estate under the auspices of Premier Poverty Alleviation Initiative (PPAI) in Imasayi, Yewa North Local Government Area of the State.
Abiodun, represented by the Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi stated that his administration had constructed about 2,000 housing units representing 80 percent of the 2,500 units promised, adding that the Prince Court Phase 2 project at Kemta-Idi-Aba, Ilaro, Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, and Ota housing projects would be completed soon.
“Our housing programme are targeted at low-income earners. We have employed the best means of developing these houses on direct labour method and our prices are the lowest in Nigeria. We are selling for about N6M through mortgage services, which only requires about 10 percent of the overall cost. The Federal Government and other providers are selling theirs for about N12M far above what we are doing in Ogun State”.
“That is why Ogun State remains the number one in the provision of affordable housing units across Nigeria. We have won this award in this category 2020 and 2021, which is an attestation that we are doing something right that others are not doing”, Governor Abiodun stated.
The Governor called on the people of Imasayi to support the actualisation of the PPAI project, adding that his administration encourages private sector participation which would alleviate poverty, attract investments, and ensure the development of the State.
Delivering the keynote address, Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe commended the multidimensional approach of the Premier Poverty Alleviation Initiative (PPAI), saying the efforts would provide a favourable industrial climate for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to thrive and empower one million people in the next two years, as well as alleviate poverty.op
In his address, Founder, PPAI, Chief Toyin Adeyinka said the initiative was geared towards lifting people below the poverty line out of poverty, creating job opportunities, and providing affordable housing for many people.oo
