OGUN INTENSIFIES EFFORT TO BRING JUSTICE CLOSER TO THE GRASSROOTS

 


To further enhance prompt dispensation of justice, particularly at the grassroots level, Ogun State Government says lots of innovation has been introduced in Customary Courts in the three Senatorial Districts to ensure that cases are treated without delay.


The President, Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Mobolaji Ojo disclosed this during an interview with OGIS correspondent in Abeokuta, stating that the 42 Customary Courts in the State had been equipped with necessary facilities, such as furniture, microphones, electrical appliances, among others to further make them more efficient.


Justice Ojo stated that Grade 1 Customary Courts were usually presided over by legal practitioners, while Grade II was being handled by non-lawyers who were closer to the people and vast with happenings in any area of jurisdiction.


"Although people view Customary Courts as inferior, they are not. They are courts of law and their judgments are binding, this is why lots of patronages come daily", he said.


The President noted that apart from Customary Court, the State government had also introduced other Courts to perform various functions such as Family Court and Small Claims Court, where the debt of not more than N1m could be resolved, commending the present administration's effort in attending to judicial needs.
