OGUN EDUCATION MINISTRY WANTS PRIVATE SCHOOLS TO EMBRACE IN INITIATIVE

Ogun State Government has charged the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), to embrace its Learners Identification Number (LIN) initiative, as part of measures to collectively fight truancy and ensure discipline among students in public and private schools across the State.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, gave this charge during the 10th Annual General Meeting of the Association, at NAPPS Secretariat, Obantoko, Abeokuta, stating that the initiative had helped the State to successfully fight examination malpractices and discourage the use of ‘special centres’.

Learner Identification Number (LIN) initiative, according to the Commissioner is meant to identify learners right from the elementary level to exit class, noting that it is essential to monitor students’ movement and activities while in school.

Prof. Arigbabu said the cooperation of NAPPS on programmes of the Ministry had enabled the government recorded more achievements in the education sector, urging the private school owners to key into the programmes and policies of the State government to further enjoy available benefits.

"When you look at what our administration had done in the education sector in line with the objective analysis, you will definitely know that the present government has turned around the situation of education in Ogun State", Arigbabu said.

Speaking earlier, the President of NAPPS, Dr. Lawrence Holumidey pledged the continued support of the association, to enable the government achieve its plans for an improved educational standard, appealing to the Ministry not to relent in the clamping down of unregistered schools.
