Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, has ordered the immediate closure of an illegal gas skid, Rock Oil and Gas located at 56, Kowope bus/stop, off Pakuro road, Mowe, for establishing it in a densely populated area.
Mr. Ola Oresanya, gave the directive today when an enforcement team of the Ministry of Environment comprising of Environmental Health Officers led by Mrs. Bushurat Owodunni carried out the exercise.
Owodunni said the operator had earlier been served an abatement notice, for contravening environmental safety standards, pointing out that the unwholesome act could cause fatalities and destruction of properties if the situation is not urgently addressed.
“The Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration will not keep mute and allow something drastic to happen to the lives and property of citizens in Ogun State. The Ministry of Environment will not hesitate to shut down any illegal gas skid established in densely populated areas”, she stated.
Owodunni said the Ministry sprang into action when it received a distress call from a resident in the area, urging intending operators to take necessary approval before embarking on the business.
She implored residents to always report any illegal or unsafe facility within their localities to the Ministry to avert tragedies that could cause gas explosions.
Speaking, a resident in the area, Mrs. Eucharia Adams commended the State government for the swift response, calling on the people to always abide by the environmental law of the State.
