Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun says his administration's efforts at attracting investments into the State are already yielding positive results, as companies are about to set up multimillion-dollar investments in the State.
Abiodun made this known while declaring open the 11th Gateway International Trade Fair with the theme, "Harnessing the Agricultural Value Chain for Sustainable Industrial and Economic Development" at the M.K.O. Abiola Trade Fair Complex, Abeokuta.
Governor Abiodun noted that the investments were attracted through his recent trip to some African countries where he met with investors, adding that the investments would have a multiplier effect on job creation, employment opportunities and aid growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and trading activities in the State.
”Recently, I was in an investment drive across Africa, marketing our economy to foreign investors. That drive is already yielding fruits as one of the biggest investors in Africa is coming to Ogun State shortly with multi-millions of dollars investment", the Governor said.
Abiodun while speaking on the theme of the Fair, described it as instructive and expedient, as it would strengthen and diversify the economy away from dependence on oil, noting that the government had provided the platform for the growth of trade through the Gateway International Trade Fair and other programmes. He said the event had continued to improve with the increased number of participants and exhibitors through its support for the Ogun State Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (OGUNCCIMA),
The State helmsman added that his administration is determined to become the export hub of the country, stating that the agro-cargo airport which is an important project towards that aspiration would be ready by the end of the year.
In her contribution, Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe re-affirmed the government's commitment to ensure the continuity and growth of the Fair, stating that it had been impactful on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the State.
In her goodwill message, the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AFCFTA) Transport Co-chairman, Barr. Funmi Folorunsho called on the government to position the State as the hub of AFCFTA, and avail opportunity of its trade fair holding next year in Nigeria.
Also speaking, a former OGUNCCIMA President, Iyalode Alaba Lawson commended the government’s initiatives through its policies and infrastructural projects like the agro-cargo airport that had added value to businesses in the State.
