Motor Drivers and Mechanics in the employ of the Ogun State Government have been reminded of the need to imbibe the right moral attitude in the discharge of their duties and should always endeavor to regularly check their vehicles, as well as keep track of all vehicular movements and activities in their logbooks and maintenance schedule.
This was brought to the fore in Abeokuta at a day capacity training organised for Motor drivers and Mechanics attached to the Ministry of Budget and Planning.
Speaking during the programme, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Dada noted that the training session was a wake-up call and timely, adding that it was sacrosanct for drivers to regularly update their knowledge on driving to meet the latest technological motoring inventions, while ensuring proper and adequate maintenance of vehicles.
“This training session for our drivers is coming at the instance of the Commissioner who directed the management to come up with a training for them. I implore all of you to listen attentively and at the close of the workshop to put into deep consideration all that has been taught”, Dada said.
Commending the set of drivers attached to the Ministry for their level-headedness and selfless delivery of service, the Permanent Secretary urged them not to relent but continue to exhibit a high level of integrity in the discharge of their duties and in dealing with their superiors.
Earlier, Director of Administration and Supplies, Mr. Dolamu Agida, said the training was indeed necessary to update the knowledge of the drivers on handling modern-day computerised vehicles.
Delivering a paper titled "Tips on Proper Vehicle Maintenance and Appropriate Record-Keeping”, a Principal Mechanical Engineer with the State government, Engr. Mausi Idowu said drivers needed to have prerequisite knowledge on maintaining their vehicles and keeping proper records that would help in tracking the activities of the vehicle.
Also speaking, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. David Onigbinde while sharing his past experiences, revealed that most drivers disobey traffic regulations and lack keeping necessary records and documents that would help in the maintenance of the automobiles.
In his response, one of the participants, Mr. Fasiu Lawal said the training was an eye-opener on the latest trend in motoring that would help them in the discharge of their daily official duties, assuring that the drivers would reciprocate the gesture by working selflessly with their superiors.
Participants were taught on Maintenance Culture, Keeping of Appropriate Vehicular Records, and the Use of Vehicle Maintenance Records Sheets, as well as Log Books for effective performance checks.
