The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has advocated for more awareness campaigns from Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), against ritual killings and other social vices, just as he supported tougher measures for whosoever found wanting.
Abiodun who disclosed this while addressing members of the Coalition of Theatre Arts Associations, Ogun State Chapter, in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta stated that the present administration would not relent in its efforts to eradicate incessant killings in the State.
The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo assured of his government’s support for the group’s activities, as it contributes to the development of the State, saying his government value the contributions of any professional body that key into the State developmental plans.
“The present administration in the State is working round the clock to ensure that these social vices are eradicated from the State, especially among our youths, even though these social vices did not just begin from this present administration while stiffer penalties await perpetrators of these acts. Your theme ‘Say No to Ritual Killings and other Social Vices in Ogun State’ is apt at this period and it is in tandem with the present administration’s mantra.’’, Abiodun said.
He charged the members to use the profession to downplay any roles that involves ritual killings and reflect the virtues that people should imbibe, particularly the younger generation.
Speaking on behalf of the group, its Chairman, Mr. Yinka Ola-Williams said the walk was to campaign against the menace of ritual killings and loss of innocent lives in the State, as well as using their profession to sensitise and re-orientate youths on the ’Get rich quick' syndrome and other nefarious activities.
