The Executive Secretary/Project Manager, Ogun State Agency for the Control of AIDS, (OGSACA), Dr. Kehinde Fatungase has said women deserve good health free from Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV), to enable them perform their roles effectively in the society.
Dr. Fatungase made this known in Abeokuta, during the testing and counseling session held in commemoration of the 2022 International Women’s Day (IWD), organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development with the theme, “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”.
Dr. Fatungase, represented by the Community Mobilisation Officer, Mrs. Bola Durosomo said the Agency is intensifying efforts to reduce the spread of HIV among men and women, through free testing and counseling, as well as consistent sensitisation campaign, adding that prevention of Mother-to-Child transmission which remains a critical area is being given necessary attention with a combination of HIV medicine to prevent the transmission of the virus from mother to child.
He stated that OGSACA had sustained its collaboration with the public health facilities to promote referral linkage of new discoveries, to enable people living with HIV/AIDS access free and quality treatment, saying “the government has purchased HIV/AIDS kits, drugs, and other tools for effective testing and counseling across the 20 Local Government Areas in the State”.
In her remark, a beneficiary, Mrs. Elizabeth Adeyemi commended the effort of the government for improving the well-being and healthy living of women, saying others would be mobilised to know their HIV status.
