Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Hon. Tunji Akinosi has said the government will continue to ensure the safety of its forest guards to forestall incessant attacks in the forest reserves.
Akinosi gave the assurance in Abeokuta during a meeting with top management staff of the Ministry and forest guards, against the backdrop of incessant attack by illegal occupants in the forest, saying the government would no longer fold its arms and watch hoodlums take over the reserves.
“Gone are those days when hoodlums and other antisocial elements will be having a field day in our forest reserves. Everything will be put in place to ensure the safety of our officers who are often attacked in the cause of performing their duties.”, he said.
The Commissioner advised the guards not to compromise on issues that could tarnish their image and always take precautionary measures whenever they were attacked.
Responding on behalf of other guards, Mr. John Ogunlowo applauded the Commissioner and management staff of the Ministry for their unflinching support in the course of performing their duties.
He acknowledged that the tasks ahead were enormous, saying they would continue to do all that was necessary for the State government to achieve its objective in the reserve and other afforestation projects.
