The giant strides of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration in the health sector have positioned the State for the attainment of Universal Health Coverage by 2030, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker has revealed.
Coker made this known in Abeokuta, at the formal launch of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) and Ogun State Informal Sector Health Insurance Scheme described the step as an all-encompassing initiative for the health sector.
She said the BHCPF would make basic health care accessible by the people and registered vulnerable across the State, adding that the health insurance scheme would ensure that artisans, traders, small business owners, and other members of the informal sector receive quality health care without paying out-of-pocket.
"The world has decided that by 2030, all individuals and communities everywhere in the world should be able to receive the health services they need without suffering financial hardship. In Ogun State, through the magnanimity of Governor Dapo Abiodun, we have established a fully functional Health Insurance Agency, and has registered several thousands of vulnerable people across the three Senatorial Districts of the State", Coker stated.
On his part, the Executive Secretary, Ogun State Health Insurance Agency (OGSHIA), Dr. Afolabi Dosunmu said the health care benefits package for people under the insurance scheme would take care of more than 200 diseases, adding that all necessary measures had been put in place to ensure its sustainability.
