As part of efforts to ensure the wellbeing of the people, as well as cater for residents in hard-to-reach areas, the Ogun State Government has taken delivery of 374, 700 doses of Johnson and Johnson brand of COVID-19 vaccine in addition to existing available brands.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker who made this known in Abeokuta, during a press briefing on the update of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign, said the brand is a single dose vaccine and would be available in all the 20 Local Government Areas (LGA) to increase vaccination coverage in the State.
Coker assured that all the available brands of vaccines were safe and potent at preventing the spread of the virus, noting that anyone that receives the Johnson and Johnson brand could take their booster shot after two months of the initial jab.
"To reach more people, particularly in hard-to-reach communities with challenging terrains and security issues, the single dose of Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine has been introduced by the Federal Government of Nigeria to cater for the underserved population in the country. Ogun has received 374,700 doses which will be available in all 20 LGAs", she stated.
The Commissioner who revealed that about 1.405 million residents had been vaccinated with the Astrazeneca, Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, noted that about 14 percent of the target population were vaccinated in the last four months, imploring those who are yet to be vaccinated to visit the nearest health facilities to get their shots.
