OGUN ISSUES 21-DAY EVICTION NOTICE TO ILLEGAL SETTLERS IN OMO FOREST RESERVE

Ogun State Ministry of Forestry has issued a 21-day quit notice to all illegal occupants in Omo Forest Reserve in Ijebu-East Local Government Area of the State.

It would be recalled that the first eviction notice was issued to the occupants of the area in 2007, after which a series of letters were written to the settlers.

A letter signed by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Lateef Benson, dated Wednesday, February 16, 2022 indicated that the notice was necessitated by the encroachment into 10,000 hectares concessions to Smart Wood Industry Limited, which had constituted a nuisance, threat, economic sabotage, destruction of forest resources and illegal farming.

Mr. Benson further stated that failure of the occupants to comply with the quit notice would attract stiffer penalties which might lead to loss of property.
