OGSG, STAKEHOLDERS RESOLVE TO REVITALISE YEWA INTERNATIONAL MARKET

 


Ogun State Government and stakeholders involved in the Yewa International Market in Yewa South Local Government Area have resolved to ensure that the market is put in good use for socio-economic development of the area.


Ajilete and Owode-Yewa are the two communities that had laid claim to the ownership of the market's location, a situation which contributed to the challenges that hindered trading activities in the facility.


This was contained in a communique issued by the Ogun State Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and the State Market Development Board after a meeting held at the Palace of the Olu of Ilaro in Ilaro on the revitalisation of the market.


The communique which was signed by eleven key stakeholders including government functionaries, monarchs of the two communities; the Olu of Owode-Yewa, Oba (Revd.) Matthew Akindele and the Alale of Ajilete, Oba Kazeem Balogun, Iyalojas, among others reflected six-point resolutions.


 The resolutions include identification of products that could be sold in the market to enable it fulfill its potentials, the name of the market should be “Yewa International Market, Ajilete/Owode-Yewa”, that due process would be followed in the selection of a consultant for the market.


 Other key decisions taken include, the setting up of a committee to continuously work out final resolutions that would culminate in the effective and prosperous take-off of the market.


Speaking, Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe said the present administration is determined to reactivate and elevate the status of the market, as well as boost commercial activities in Yewaland.


In their remarks, Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan and his counterpart in the Culture and Tourism Ministry, Dr. Toyin Taiwo who are both indigenes of Yewaland assured that the government would provide the necessary budgetary support to ensure the plans for the market were accomplished.


On his part, the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Olugbenle called on the people of the communities to embrace peace and place priority on the economic gains from the market.


Contributing, the Olu of Owode-Yewa, and the Alale of Ajilete, Oba (Revd.) Akindele and Oba Balogun respectively assured of their willingness to ensure the market's potentials were realised.


Other key stakeholders present at the meeting include, House Member representing Yewa South Local Government Area, Hon. Latifat Ajayi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola, Chairman, Ogun State Market Development Board, Hon. Razak Daddah, Iyaloja-General of Ogun State, Chief Mrs. Yemisi Abass and others.
