In a bid to ensure the smooth running of the operation and efficient service delivery, on the implementation of Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme, the Ogun State government has trained Local Government Cash Transfer (LGCT) staff in Ipokia, Ewekoro, Ikenne, Odeda, Ijebu East and Yewa North Local Government Areas.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi while speaking at the training organised by the State Conditional Cash Transfer unit in Abeokuta, said the government was determined to tackle errors of exclusion and inclusion, gender-related grievances and payment issues among others.
Dr. Akinlesi pointed out that the conditional cash transfer is one of the Federal government’s social investment programmes aimed at addressing prevalent poverty and hunger among the citizens of Nigeria, especially the rural dwellers with poor sources of income, urging the participants to ensure truthfulness and fairness in the discharge of their duties to achieve the goals of the programme.
In his presentation, Facilitator of the programme, Barr. Dayo Adigun said Grievance Redress Mechanism was designed to address various complaints that may arise in the course of implementing the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme,
Adigun noted that the training became necessary to prepare the LGCT Team for what lies ahead, adding that it should be seen as a way forward and not a threat because it records valuable information that could help to strengthen the implementation of the programme.
He implored all the participants to always ensure oneness to improve livelihood of indigents across the State, urging them to take note of all the processes of the grievance redress mechanism which is a tool to attaining the desired goal of the programme.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Head, Ogun State Cash Transfer Unit, Mrs. Funmi Baker appreciated the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for the unwavering support he has given the programme so far, saying the Conditional Cash Transfer had helped in alleviating the sufferings of the vulnerable in the State.
Mrs. Baker noted that various training and sensitisation being carried out by the unit had yielded positive results, assuring that they would continue to train and retrain for the maximum result to be achieved.
In their responses, two of the participants, Mr. Gideon Ajanaku and Mrs. Bolanle Okosi from Ipokia and Ewekoro Local Governments respectively commended the government for training them on various redress mechanisms would help them in the discharge of their duties.
