BE AN AGENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, ABIODUN URGES STUDENTS

 


The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun says students of tertiary institutions should embrace positive virtues, uprightness and values in order to achieve their dreams for the economic development of the nation.


Governor Abiodun made this known at the 3rd combined convocation and 16th anniversary ceremonies of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo, stating that students should make good use of the opportunities at their disposal to bring about change in the society.


Abiodun, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, said the best graduating student of the institution for the 2020/2021 academic session, Miss Sarah Olanipekun of the Mass Communication Department would be given a sum of N1million cash prize and automatic employment, noting that the present administration would continue to encourage outstanding students who excel in their studies.


“I implore you to be focused, determined, hardworking, patient, steadfast and upright. You will find fame and wealth, good memories will be your reward. Above all, find time to serve your God and allow Him to lead you”, he said.


The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment in the education sector, through its policy formulation and programme implementation that supports effective teaching and learning delivery which would enhance student’s potentials as agents of positive change.


Earlier in her address, the Rector, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Prof. (Mrs.) Jumoke Bilesanmi-Awoderu, revealed that the institution had embedded Information Technology (IT) in all the courses and programmes being run in the school, saying the present administration had provided the school with full opportunity and conducive environment to function optimally.


Prof. Bilesanmi-Awoderu commended the graduands for their hard work, perseverance and doggedness, encouraging them to chart new ways for self-sustenance and put into practice all they have acquired.


In his lecture titled, ‘Polytechnic Education: Achievement and the Global Expectations’, the Rector, Yaba College of Technology, Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe, said the polytechnic had great potential to launch the nation into technological development, adding that the feat could only be achieved when polytechnics operate in line with the set mandate.


In her speech, the best graduating student, Miss Olanipekun appreciated the Governor for the gesture and his effort towards ensuring that the pride of education was completely restored in the State, encouraging other graduands to show the world the knowledge that had been imparted in them.


Highlights of the event was the commissioning of the 2017 annual intervention twin 200-seater lecture hall with staff offices, a 250-seater ICT centre with offices, the 2018 zonal intervention 400 lecture hall and Adebisi Idiat Kaka 200 capacity lecture hall.
