In preparation for 2023 general elections, the immediate past Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has called on Nigerian youths to ensure they get their Personal Voter Card’s PVC’s ready for the polls.
Breaking his silence in a rare development, Ambode, in a short message from his twitter handle and facebook pages on Tuesday, thanked residents for the support he received during his time in office and called on the youths not to take ownership of PVC’s for granted.
Apparently, calling on the Nigerian youths not to undermine participatory politics, Ambode, who was denied a second term ticket by some power forces in the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2019 governorship poll in Lagos, stressed that their future lies in their hands.
He wrote, “Thank you for the overwhelming endorsement of our modest contributions to the growth of Lagos. It can only get better for Lagos, and indeed Nigeria.
“The youths are coming. The power is in their hands. Go and get your PVC’s ready. Your future is NOW!.”
The short message was however, regarded as a sharp rejection of the spirit of imposition and godfatherism and a wake up call to the Nigerian youths not to undermine participatory politics.
Political observers viewed the statement by Ambode as not only an inspiration but a massive boost to Independent national Electoral Commission, INEC, advocatory policies and a clarion call for a departure from the old ways of politics characterized by rigging.
