Any act of environmental degradation, that jeopardises the wellbeing of Ogun State residents, especially in market places will not be tolerated, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Hon. Farouk Akintunde has said.
Akintunde revealed this in Abeokuta during a sensitisation campaign to Kuto market, saying it was essential for traders to always clean and dispose their waste properly in receptacles provided at designated points.
He noted that marketplaces are melting points for different people and there could be possibilities of infection, saying to avoid such, the government had decided to be proactive by sensitising the people on how to maintain a healthy and clean environment to avoid an epidemic.
‘’I want to implore our traders to maintain 100 percent compliance at ensuring a healthy and conducive environment. Plans are ongoing to enlighten market leaders and traders on effective new waste disposable practices which will allow them to dispose their waste properly to overcome the challenges that come with waste disposable on a large scale”, Akintunde said.
The Senior Special Adviser added that seminars would be held regularly in marketplaces to educate the people on laws guiding the operation of a marketplace, proper waste disposal, and how to improve cleanliness and public acceptability, noting that a dirty environment would not attract investors to the State.
