FEDERAL ALLOCATION: OGUN SHARES N3.587BN AMONG LGs



The sum of N3.587bn has been shared among the 20 Local Governments of Ogun State, being the amount received as statutory allocations from the Federal Government for the month of January, 2022.


Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, made this known in Abeokuta, at the January, 2022 edition of the Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting, stating that the LGs Chairmen should look inward on how to improve their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).


 Afuape noted that the meeting was an avenue to equip them with information regarding the monthly allocations, saying the meeting was an official engagement that requires utmost attention, to improve welfare and infrastructural development at the grassroots.


In his presentation, Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo, represented by the Director, Inspectorate and Monitoring in the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Kolapo Ilori said a sum of N4,058,660,832.72bn was expected to be paid as first lines charges which include, primary school teachers, Local Government Staff, as well as traditional rulers’ salaries, and other charges, noting that the gross deficit stood at a sum of N470,901,128.69bn, which covers PAYE, contributory pension, five percent bond on pension, cooperative and loans.


In his remarks, the Chairman, Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Hon. Tunde Emiola-Gazal appreciated the government for harmonising payment of the first line charges which had allowed all the councils to meet up with salary payment.


Contributing, the Onimeko of Imeko, and Odofin of Shoyindo, Oba Benjamin Olanite and Oba Lasisi Gisanri, respectively called for formidable and effective distribution of wealth across the Local Government Areas, in order to justify the current distribution formula.
